“It’s not only Anna’s love, or Henry’s, that can save us. They accept us for who we are, and that’s important, but it’s not enough. It’s on us too. You have to love yourself, Emma. The good and the bad. The only way to ever truly be in control of your powers is to embrace them. Because this… this is who you are.”
-Elsa
Once Upon a Time, Season 4, Episode 8, “Break the Mirror.”
This quote may only be one week old, but there is plenty of wisdom within it. There is little more inspiring than seeing someone who has lost their way find it again. To find one’s own self-worth, to love the things that seem to just mark us as freaks, to find the strength within to stand tall and continue on, no matter the hardships past or future, what could be greater than this?
If we love ourselves, we have a greater capacity to love others. And if we love ourselves, we have the resolve to improve ourselves, little by little, day by day.
Loving oneself is the hardest thing for me especially when there have been people and various forms of media telling me to hate myself.
