So what anime have I watched, which never gets, and has never gotten, old, no matter how many times I have watched and rewatched it?
Well, something like that would easily move its way into my favorites, anywhere between a passing favorite, to Top Contender, or even my very most favorite of them all. So, my first impulse is Fairy Tail, but, as I think about it, there have been times it felt old… or, at least, that I wanted to watch something else for awhile, particularly with Fairy Tail‘s latest filler. The same holds true for most of my favorites, no matter the ranking, be it Fullemtal Alchemist: Brotherhood or Ah My Goddess or Dog Days or anything else.
I can honestly say, I have never once tired of One Piece.
I don’t know how many times I’ve rewatched the beginnings of the anime, particularly the Arlong Park arch, but I never tire of it. Then, fairly recently, just a couple months ago, I rewatched the entire Impel Down arch, and it was like I was watching it for the first time again, I was every bit as enchanted.
Heck, they even make the filler downright entertaining, so it doesn’t even “feel” like filler! It’s filler that I can actually rewatch!
That is saying something!
When Bleach did filler, or when Naruto does filler, or any number of other anime does filler, you can pretty much just skip it and miss nothing. In fact, you can skip it and miss the noticeably-lesser quality of the work.
Not so with One Piece.
With One Piece, the filler is every bit as good as the main canon, and with the benefits of being shorter! The tales may not be so intricate without a multitude of interweaving plots, but it’s great nonetheless!
Any show that can make filler as rewatchable as everything else, and makes the whole package so great I can rewatch it endlessly, has definitely accomplished something.
Small wonder One Piece is such a strong contender for the top spot among my favorites!
