Sunday’s Wisdom #43: The World Owes You Nothing

“You don’t want to work. You want to live like a king.
But the big, bad world doesn’t owe you a thing.”
– From “Get Over It” by the Eagles

Rather simple and straightforward, this one. Not much for me to expand on, except to heartily endorse the sentiment.

We have far too many people who have gotten it into their heads that they are somehow owed something, that they deserve anything they want, and anyone they take if from deserves to have it taken from them.

It’s the mentality of entitlement, and it is by no means restricted to the wealthy upper class. Quite the opposite, it’s one way to stir up angry mobs among the masses.

Even worse, when those masses have had preferential treatment all their lives, they can’t handle the reality that they don’t deserve it, and earn it solely by virtue of existing. It’s so obvious that their wants should come before other people’s needs!

And they will never be satisfied, not under any circumstance.

Meanwhile, everyone else in the world tries to make an honest living by the sweat of their brows. But these spoiled brats can’t accept that idea, of being equal to everyone else.

“My life is so hard! Give me all of this now! Or I’ll throw a tantrum and break stuff! Waaaah!”

I rather like the refrain that immediately follows the quote: “GET OVER IT!”

🙂
